Why do we celebrate April Fools Day?

Truth is we really don't know where the tradition of playing pranks on people came from.

There are a few theories floating around though.

When the western world used the Julian calendar, the year began on March 25th because they celebrated the start of a new year with the start of spring. However since that fell in the Holy Week, the celebrated it on the first of April. However when we switched to the Gregorian calendar in the 1500s, we moved the New Year to the first of January. According to the most widely told story, those who still celebrated the New Year on April 1st were called April fools.

The Encyclopedia of Religion and the Encyclopedia Britannica thinks that the timing of April Fool's Day is directly related to the arrival of Spring, when nature 'fools' humans with erratic weather.

The Country Diary of Garden Lore has a theory that April Fools Day commemorates "the fruitless mission of the rook (the European crow) who was sent out in search of land from Noah's flood-surrounded ark."

So, on April 1st are you going to be the tricked or the trickster

Did you know?
In France, April Fools day is called "Poisson d'Avril" meaning April Fish. The tradition is that French children will tape paper fish to the backs of their friends. When they would discover the fish on their back, the prankster would yell "Poisson d'Avril!" The origin of this is unknown.

In Scotland the April fool is called April "gowk" which is Scottish for cuckoo. The Cuckoo is an emblem of simpletons.

In Canada, CHEZ FM fooled the listeners one April Fools Day making listeners believe that it was the last day that the treasury would honor all the two-dollar bills still in circulation. The same year they had people going through their change looking for the mysterious two-dollar coins that had mistakenly been minted from real gold.

One newscaster on the news show CBO Morning announced that the clock in Ottawa's Peace Tower was being switched to digital.

On 1 April 1957 on BBC's show Panorama opened with a line about Spring coming early this year, prompting the spaghetti harvest in Switzerland to be early as well. In the normal news manner, spaghetti's oddly uniform length was explained as the result of years of dedicated cultivation. The report stated that the ravenous spaghetti weevil had been conquered.

Top 11 Facebook Games of 2011

11. Zombie Lane

Digital Chocolate

For those of us who were sick to death of growing virtual crops, smashing/shooting/otherwise maiming zombies in this slightly subversive game was a refreshing change of pace.

10. CastleVille

Zynga

Just in case you didn't have enough 'Ville' games in your life, Zynga brings you another one -- this one in the form of CastleVille, where you build your kingdom and take up arms against 'the gloom' and its creatures as you explore uncharted territory. Aside from the general theme, this game expands on the whole simulation genre by tossing in a more mature crafting system and a large area to explore. Think of this as Ville 2.0.

9. Empires & Allies

Zynga

Finally, a Zynga game where you can both help and hurt friends. OK, not really hurt them, but pit your troops against their troops and see who has the bigger guns. This player-vs-player action is one of the more compelling parts of this game, which is, essentially, an homage to the classic game Risk mixed with Zynga's special 'Ville' game formula.

8. Deep Realms

Playdom

Deep Realms doesn't have as loyal a following as, say, CityVille -- but it was one of the first games in 2011 to deliver a deeper game experience custom-created for the Facebook audience. So instead of mindlessly clicking to harvest crops in FarmVille, this role-playing adventure includes a well thought-out storyline, enemies, weapons, magic, potions and other things that you'd expect to see, well, pretty much anywhere other than a social game.

7. Fruit Ninja Frenzy

Halfbrick Studio

The popular iOS game makes the jump to Facebook, and while it doesn't exactly capture the magic of the original (you use a mouse rather than your finger to chop flying fruit), it's still a great way to kill (slice?) time while appearing to look busy on your work/school/home computer.

6. Draw My Thing

OMG Pop

Draw My Thing might be an unapologetic Pictionary clone, but it's also one of the more social, social games on Facebook. Just like the classic board game, you're tasked with alternately drawing pictures and guessing what other people's drawings represent, but instead of gathering in someone's living room to play, you're paired with other people (friends or otherwise) in a virtual room. Sure, the resulting scribbles often look like the work of a precocious toddler, but that -- plus the chance to bond with complete strangers -- makes this game that much more likely to draw you in.

5. MapleStory Adventures

Nexon

Much like EA did with The Sims, Nexon took its popular PC game, MapleStory, and made a custom version for the Facebook gaming set. The results? A point and click affair that's much more complex than your average social game. This role-playing lite game includes character classes, roll-of-the-dice battles, crafting, weapon enchanting and a cutesy charm with a quirky, lost-in-translation vibe.

4. Dreamland

FreshPlanet

If Tim Burton made a Facebook game, it'd probably be something like Dreamland, which is equal parts board game, role-playing game and fantastical adventure. This imaginative little gem immerses you (the dreamer) into a dream world and it's your mission to eradicate invading nightmares with the roll of a die.

3. Gardens of Time

Playdom

Hidden object games are the shooters (read: Call of Duty) of the casual gaming world. So it only makes sense to bring this I-Spy style game to the Facebook gaming masses. Gardens of Time wasn't the first game of this type on the social network, but it's certainly the most successful (so far), with a regularly updated roster of puzzles and a customizable garden that keep dedicated HOGers coming back for more.

2. Tetris Battle

Tetris Online Inc

Think you're a Tetris master? Put your shape stacking to the test in this Facebook rendition of the classic game, which pits you against other players in real-time matches. Each line you delete will be added to your opponent's board, bringing them that much closer to a KO (and you that much closer to victory). Coins -- or Tetris Cash, which costs real $$ -- can be used to buy both cosmetic and game-changing upgrades. Play once, and you'll soon discover you have a new mantra: "Just one more game."

1. The Sims Social

Electronic Arts

The hit PC game that's been letting us live virtual fantasy lives since 2000 finally made its way to Facebook this year. It's the perfect blend of The Sims we all know and love -- right down to the regular bladder relief and making WooHoo -- mixed with social game elements, such as gifting, visiting neighbors, and buying in-game items with virtual (and real) dollars. If there was one reason to start playing games on Facebook in 2011 -- this was it.

Tak Bisa Memiliki

Bila
Waktuku tersisa
Untuk s'lalu di sisi
Menjaga hatimu

Aku
'Kan s'lalu mencoba
Berikan yang terbaik
Untuk kau miliki

Tapi maafkanlah aku
Waktuku hanya sesaat

Aku tak bisa memiliki
Menjaga cintamu
Walau sesungguhnya hatiku mencintaimu, memilikimu
Aku tak ingin kau terluka
Mencintai aku
Hapuslah air matamu dan lupakan aku

Sendiri
Di batas asaku
Hanya ingin kau bahagia
Jalani hidupmu
Aku kan slalu mencoba
Berikan yang terbaik untuk kau miliki
Tapi maafkanlah aku
Waktuku hanya sesaat

~understood, peace~

Cintaku Hilang Bisanya

Binasa aku seandainya
Sentuhan cintaku kehilangan bisa

Sekian lama
Ku bajai
Kau racun sehingga layu
Dan kering oh...oh

Terperangkaplah aku
Dalam suratan
Kejujuran tiada harga

Hanya tulus yang mampu
Ku berikan padamu
Tanpa cinta
Ku tak berdaya

Salahlah takdir
Yang telah direncanakan
Ataupun perpisahan
Menjadi percaturan

Kerana cinta
Aku yang menjadi korban
Biarlah ku berundur
Itu yang engkau mahu
Aku tak berdaya

Shooting Technique

Locking your ankle (pointing toes down), when striking the ball, is probably the single most important factor in developing the proper shooting technique. It is also the hardest skill to learn. The Super Kick has made that task easier. You don't have to think about what you are doing wrong anymore. The Super Kick will tell you, and correct your technique in minutes.

Steps to improve your shot.

1. Leg Position:
Bring your kicking leg as high as possible. This will generate the most amount of power.

2. Ankle Position:
Keep your ankle locked. Picture above shows the position of the ankle before striking the ball.

3. Knee Position:
Your plant knee should be slightly bent. This will ensure that you strike the ball with the laces. The more you bend the knee the more chances you'll have to strike the ball with your laces.

4. Plant Distance
Try to keep your plant leg about a foot or a a foot and a half away from the ball. This will ensure that when you strike the ball your kicking ankle will be at a 45 degree angle: the angle at which you'll generate the most amount of power.

5. Body Position:
Make sure your lean slightly forward. this will ensure that your shot will stay low to the ground. If you lean back the ball will go up in the air.

6. The most important Step: 45 degree angle
This is extremely important. If this is not done correctly your shooting will not improve. Your ankle needs to be at about a 45 degree angle so that you can strike the ball with your laces. If you are not at this angle there is a high chance that you will strike the ball with you toes.

LOVE AND FEAR

There are two primary emotions that all human beings are driven by...

Love & Fear

Either you're trying to "get love" OR you have FEARS in your life
that keep you from moving forward.

FEAR is the main emotion that keep us trapped where we are.

Fear of not being good enough.
Fear we won't be loved.
Fear of losing control.

I will go out on a limb and say that A LOT of us live our life by
the things we FEAR more so than by the things we LOVE.

Fear will also manifest into many other more complex emotions that
MASK what is really going on inside.

If, on a daily basis you feel these emotions:

* Frustration
* Anger
* Jealousy
* Insecurity
* Anxiety
* Unhappiness
* Loneliness

Then underneath all those times you felt these emotions, the truth
is that you were actually driven by a FEAR of something in your
life that you're not dealing with.

At the root of it all, we're still little kids in a grown up body.
We still have fears that were imprinted on us from when we were a
little kid.

Fear love will be taken away from us... Fear we'll get hurt by people
who are meant to love us...

But half of us (or most of us), wouldn't want to admit it - because
admitting we feel this way is essentially putting ourself in a
VULNERABLE position.

As human beings, we will do anything to conceal from others that
we're weak and vulnerable. ESPECIALLY if you're a guy!

Today's message isn't to show you that you have fears, EVERYONE
does. It's to get you to recognise when you're allowing that fear
to CONTROL your life, instead of having YOU be in control of it.

Whether it's saying 'Yes' to someone
...saying 'Sorry' to someone
...or saying 'Never Again' to someone who continues to hurt you

Whatever it is YOU want for your life and whatever you want to be,
you CAN be - it's only FEAR that holds you back.

So, the choice is up to you.

Choose what you want to do and how you're going to do it...

What appears to be something that is difficult is actually
surprisingly SIMPLE.

Don't overthink it - do what you know you need to do.
